Dream Come True finished 2007 by fulfilling 25 dreams for our Dream Come True children. The dreams in 2007 were mostly Disney World however; many of the kids had unique ideas. Patrick visited Normandy and toured all the War Museums. Jazmine wanted to see volcanoes and black sand and visited Hawaii. Courtney also visited Hawaii but to rest and spend time with her family. Her wish was to visit a remote island. Dream Come True sent her and her family to Turtle Bay. Gregory wanted his own house. Dream Come True gave him an awesome playhouse with a loft.
TELETHON
Dream Come True partnered with RCN TV 4 for our 22nd Annual Telethon. The Telethon aired on RCN TV4 and televised live from the Westgate Mall raised over $100,000. Rachel Frank the weather girl from Channel 69 news eloquently interviewed the Dream Come True children about their struggle with their illness and to share their dream experience. Gary Laubach interviewed guest who so graciously raised money for Dream Come True. Scott Barr acted as our auctioneer as he spent a lot of time promoted donated auction items. Spring Garden Elementary School, Northeast Middle School, Miller Heights School, and St. Anne Schools in Bethlehem and Floyd Shafer Elementary School in Nazareth helped us reach our goal. Tuskes Homes and Associates began the evening with their generous contribution of over $8,000. Dream Kids appeared to perform for us and to present Dream Come True with a $10,000 check. Mopar Madness, who each year raise money for us through their Cruise Nights held two times a month, came and gave us $6,500. Many individuals, businesses and service groups and their generosity helped our 2007 Telethon continue to be our most successful fund raiser.
Thank you to everyone who supported this fine show. A special thanks to everyone at RCN and Westgate Mall for their hard work and kindness.
POLAR EXPRESS
December 18th Dream Come True, The Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority and Allegiant Air flew 107 of our Dream Come True children to the North Pole. This North Pole Express began three years ago where we literally fly our children to meet Santa. The children register with an ornament are guided to the ticket counter for their special boarding pass. Along the way they meet various costume characters. This year the Just Born Zours, Mike and Ike, Peanut Chew and the Peepster entertained along with a teddy bear, fairy princesses, Frosty, Cat in the Hat, Penguin and Tip the Crayon. Each child stopped at 8 stations where they received a special gift. Allentown FOP handed out teddy bears, Homewood Suites handed out bags and foam crafts, Staybridge Suites and Hilton Garden Inn handed out reindeer mugs, AAA East Penn handed out Disney Stuffed Animals and Bethlehem Catholic Students handed out kazoos and reindeer antlers. The 9th station had Rudolph himself distribute blinking reindeer noses.
Liberty HS Bagpipers and the Emmaus Boys Chorale Group entertained at the gate. After much anticipation we were in the air singing songs and telling stories. Once we arrived at the North Pole Santa and Mrs. Claus were waiting. After eating dinner the children saw Santa and Mrs. Claus and received a gift bag.
